Letter from the President
Dear AAA Members,
This is an exciting time for our small association. Many of our aspirations for growth and maturity as a professional association are being realized as small steps, occasionally unsteady, but nevertheless forward progress toward our goals. Among these signs must be included the inauguration of the International Journal of Anaplastology, last year’s successful “Anaplastology and Osseointegrated Implants: Craniofacial Prosthetic and Surgical Hands-On Training” course, the decision by membership to recognize the international character of the group by altering its name, and the imminent implementation of formal testing to provide certification for clinical practitioners.
We are comprised of individuals from the fields of anaplastology, maxillofacial prosthetics, medical illustration, ocularistry, prosthetics and orthotics, dental laboratory technology, prosthodontics (prosthetic dentistry), materials research, clinical cosmetology, biomechanical engineering, medicine, psychology, and other allied health fields. Everyone is united in their pursuit of improving the quality of care for the patient population that we serve, and everyone benefits from the exchange and sharing of information from many analogous fields.
In May, 2007, in a unique meeting of the AAA board, committee chairs, and the Board for the Certification of Clinical Anaplastologists, the vision statement of the AAA was modified to the promotion of “quality patient care by supporting the development of best practices in Anaplastology through educational conferences, networking, publications, and advocacy opportunities”. This website is an important tool for us in realizing that vision. I hope you find it useful and welcome your suggestions. Please feel welcome to call me any time.
Sincerely,
Jerry Schoendorf, MAMS
2007-2008 AAA President
