2008 Workshop Descriptions

Workshop Descriptions

November 9, 2008:  8:00 AM - 9:20 AM Group I Workshops

bone anchored prosthesis

1.1 Bone-Anchored Facial Prostheses,

Susan W Habakuk MEd, CCA

Limited to 25 registrants (with at least 3 years of experience providing facial prosthetic services)

Clinical and laboratory steps of the design and fabrication of bone anchored facial prostheses. Through PowerPoint
presentations, teaching models and demonstration of prosthetic techniques, all steps of the treatment plan (presurgical planning, impression procedures, retention mechanisms, wax prototype, intrinsic coloring techniques, mold making, final delivery) will be presented.

sculpting a face

1.2 A Live Demonstration of Sculpting a Face,

Irene Healey, BSc, AAM, CCA

The general principles of sculpting a head are demonstrated, with emphasis on the individual facial features. Different materials, tools and techniques are discussed with reference to how the information can be applied to Anaplastology.

9:30 AM - 10:50 AM Group II Workshops

3d prototyping

2.1 Surface Scanning (using 3dMD) and Rapid Prototyping (RP) as applied to Prosthetic Applications,

Stephen Rouse DDS, Peter C Liacouras, PhD, WRAMC, Johnathan A Garnes, Norberto Roman, Instructors

Procedures for fabrication of craniofacial prostheses from 3D surface scanning and RP models.  Treatment plans, techniques, materials and equipment will be presented via PowerPoint presentation, demonstration models, and literature. An ultra-fast, high-precision 3D surface-imaging technique of the face (3dMD) will be demonstrated using volunteer participants as subjects.  The 3D Scans can be used to create 3D rapid prototyped models.  Participants will become familiar with the software applications used.

2.2 Effects of Light on Color Surfaces and Texture: Hands-on Techniques for Creating Skin Texture in Various Mediums,

William M Andrews, MA, CMI , Amanda Yarberry Behr, MA, CMI, Gillian Duncan, MS, CMI, Wendy A Smith CP, CCA and Allison Vest, MS

Explore the use of color and light on texture. Please join us for a presentation of color theory and texture techniques in clay, silicone, and wax. Multiple presenters will demonstrate their texture techniques, tools and color theory for developing believable color and texture.  Lab time provided for hands-on experience.

11:00 AM - 12:20 PM Group III Workshops

3.1 Update on Facility Accreditation Standards,

James Newberry, BOCP, LPO

The new standards of the BOC (Board of Orthotists Prosthetist Certification) encompass all providers of DMEPOS.  Get your questions answered and prepare for the Facility Accreditation application as well as the site survey process.

3.2 Laboratory Materials for the Clinical Anaplastologist,

Robert A Erb, BS, MS, PhD, and Doretta L Erb, BS

A presentation on chemical, physical and mechanic al properties of materials used in Anaplastology.  A wide range of lab materials are covered from traditional to rapid prototyping materials --as well as identifying commercial material suppliers.  Demonstration of materials, along with examples of their use in molds, casts, and finished prostheses. Bring you lab questions and problems for discussion!
